Misery

A Note From the Director

Misery, written by William Goldman, is a stage adaptation of the classic Stephen King novel of the same name. The story follows Paul Sheldon, a famous writer known best for his "Misery" books and the main character of the series, Misery Chastain. After a horrible car accident, he is rescued by Annie Wilkes, a woman who claims to be his "number one fan." He believes her intentions are to nurse him back to health, but Paul quickly realizes things are not as they seem.

Both Nick and Jack are beyond grateful to have this opportunity to co-direct their first show! They are so thankful for their close friends and the theater department as a whole for giving them the chance to bring a new genre of theater to Gundlach. Stephen King is known as the king of horror, so for us to direct a show of his and bring his work to life was an incredible experience. We hope you enjoy the show!

Meet the Cast

Elayna Brock she/her (Annie Wilkes) is excited to perform in the Black Box Theatre for the first time for her senior year. She has previously performed in Chicago (Roxie Hart), A Midsummer’s Night Dream (Titania/Hippolyta), Addams Family (Alice Beinike), as well as other shows. Elayna would like to thank her friends and family for the continuous support through her theater journey but specifically to Nick Talion and Jack Mills for being amazing friends and directors.

Isaac Hulbert is a senior Theatre and History double major at Heidelberg university. He is very excited to be onstage and prop designer of Misery.

Garrett Hummel is a senior acting major at Heidelberg University and has been in shows like The Addams Family as Lurch, Chicago as Amos Hart, and Clue the Musical as Mr. Green. Garrett has also starred in two different films as Walter in The Amorette Hotel and as Emerson in The Legend of Holcomb Road.

Meet the Production/Creative Team

Bri Clark she/her (Hair & Makeup/Costumes Designer) is a senior Musical Theater major and is on track to get her MBA. She has participated in theatrical shows pretty much her entire life. Bri has been a part of more than fourteen productions here at Heidelberg including The Addams Family (Pugsley) and She Kills Monsters (Lilith). She also participates as the Scenic Charge and Graphic Designer for the theater department. Bri is excited about what the future holds for her!

Chantress DeWitt she/they (Stage Manager) is so excited to get back to stage managing! Chantress is a junior musical theatre major but they love both onstage and backstage theatre assignments. Some of their favorite productions include Rocky Horror 2021 (stage manager), Pride & Prejudice (assistant stage manager), The Cake (stage manager), Cinderella (dance captain), Chicago (dance captain), and much more! They are so excited for you to see the show and hope you enjoy it!

Jack Mills is a Junior musical theatre major. He has performed in many Heidelberg theatre productions such as Dance Nation as Luke, Lucas in The Addams Family Musical, Puck in A Midsummer’s Night Dream. He assistant directed a student directed play in the Blackbox theater called My First Time. He is very excited to co-direct for the first time in Heidelberg’s production of Misery with Nick Talion. He wants to thank his friends and family for their continuous support. He would also like to thank the cast and crew of Misery for their hard work, dedication, and being such great role models, and great people to work with. Hope you enjoy the show!

Autumn Perry she/her (Sound Designer) is a sophomore Theatre Production and English major and is extremely excited to sound design her first show this Fall. Autumn has previously been involved in Heidelberg's production of Chicago (Stage Manager), Addams Family, (Assistant Stage Manager) and Eurydice (Stage Manager). Autumn is very grateful for her production assignments this semester and is looking forward to another amazing year in the theater. Autumn would also like to thank her loved ones for all the support they offer her, as she would not be where she is today, all on her own.

Ben Pollizi is a senior musical theatre major and he is so excited to get to work on Misery! This semester he has been the lighting designer for Chicago, and will also work on Spooky Dog. He would like to thank Nick, Jack, and Chantress for the chance to work on the show!

Nick Talion is a senior at Heidelberg and is so excited to direct a show for the first time with Jack! He has been in previous productions here at Gundlach such as Cabaret (Ernst), She Kills Monsters (Miles), Dog Sees God (CB), My First Time, and Pride and Prejudice (Darcy), but this is his first time directing a whole show. He would like to thank his friends and family for all the support and for helping him make it this far, as well as the entire cast and the production team for making this show such an amazing experience!
